Jane Hobson is a Chicago-based singer-songwriter originally from Madison, Wisconsin. Her music lives somewhere between post-punk, indie rock, and folk, and is driven mostly by lyrics—sometimes sweet, sometimes mean. She writes about relationships, imagined and real characters, and love stories that don’t always end the way you want them to.
She grew up making music with her dad, Dan Hobson, the drummer for the grunge band Killdozer. Influenced by artists like The Cranberries, Snail Mail, and Big Thief, Jane’s music strikes a balance between softness and bite, a kind of sad-girl songwriting delivered with a rock band behind it.
Jane studied English at Oberlin College, where she fronted the rock band The Hobgoblins. She now plays live with friends from Madison, including Eddie Campell on drums, James Strelow on guitar, and Ivan Skryagin on bass.
She’s played shows across the Midwest at venues and festivals like Lincoln Hall, Schubas, Empty Bottle, the Hideout, AtwoodFest, Orton Park Festival, Cactus Club, High Noon Saloon, The Bur Oak, and The Sh*tty Barn.
